24 Oct How To Plan Your Family Skiing Holiday
Family Skiing Holiday Planning tips
A family skiing holiday is a brilliant holiday choice for kids of all ages. However, there is a lot to consider and some research, planning and organising in advance will ensure your family skiing holiday runs smoothly. The Alpine Escape concierge team are on hand to make it as simple as possible for you, and help with every stage.
Choosing the right resort
La Tania is the perfect resort to introduce your children to skiing. The pedestrianised village surrounding the bottom of the slopes, means you don’t have to worry about traffic and there is easy access to the lifts. La Tania couldn’t be more suitable for little ones.
Choosing the right accommodation
Every family is different and Alpine Escape offers a bespoke service to suit the needs of each family that books with us. A catered chalet suits those that don’t want to plan meals, cook, clear up and have everything seamlessly organised for them.
The Alpine Escape catered ski holiday could be the best family skiing holiday option for those with little ones. They will then also benefit from earlier nutritious kids meals so the adults can relax and enjoy a later, 4 course fine dining meal.
A self -catered chalet will work for those who enjoy more flexibility. Maybe you’ve enjoyed a big lunch whilst out skiing and just fancy a pizza or cheese board in the evening. Or, maybe you’re enjoying some brilliant live music at apres ski and don’t want to leave to get back for dinner and decide to dine out instead. Families with older kids and teenagers love the freedom of the Alpine Escape self- catered family skiing holiday. Alpine Escape has chalets of both types with hot tubs, games rooms and TV snugs; perfect for keeping kids of all ages entertained in the evenings.
We also have all the equipment so you don’t need to bring anything with you. Just let us know before you arrive what you need from the list below and we’ll have it in the chalet waiting for you. Buggies / Highchairs / Travel cots with extra-thick mattresses / Baby monitors /Stair gates / Bed guards / Bottle sterilisers / Changing mats / Baby sledges / Crockery and cutlery / Toys and games
Choosing the right clothing
Clothes can either be borrowed from other ski loving friends and family or bought in advance.
For value you can’t beat Decathlon or Dare2B and Patagonia for the best ethical and sustainable quality gear
Use our checklist to make sure you don’t forget anything!
- Ski jacket/ Snowsuit – with a few safe pockets for money and snacks.
- Ski trousers
- Snow boots/ walking shoes (Don’t pack wellies for the kids. Their feet will freeze!)
- Thermal top and thermal trousers
- Warm Hat
- Waterproof mittens/Gloves
- Ski socks – They need to be long enough to go above the ski boot otherwise the boots won’t fit properly!
- Neck Scarf/ snood
- Goggles ( for skiing) / Sunglasses (for walking around resort)
- Helmet – this is essential and if you don’t buy before you get to resort all the ski hire shops rent them out too
Choosing the right ski & snowboard equipment
From the very start Alpine Escape have worked with Ski Higher because they offer a fantastic service and equipment. They will also come and fit your skis, snowboards and boots in your chalet. This is perfect for families who don’t want to drag the kids out after a long journey. Once our concierge have your flight and arrival times they will book it all for you.
Choosing the right ski school
If your family skiing holiday is booked during school holidays it’s always best to book lessons early to avoid disappointment. You may want private family lessons, group lessons but only in the morning or you’re not sure what is best because it’s your first time. Our Concierge Service can offer advice and assist you with organising the right ski and snowboard lessons for you. We recommend New Generation, Magic in Motion & First Tracks who all offer smaller groups, English-speaking instructors and fun sessions.
We want you to enjoy every second of your family skiing holiday with Alpine Escape so if there is anything you need to plan your holiday then just ask and we will sort it out for you!
